Honors Western Civilization

Today, we had a shortened class due to a community bell. We added more on to the Hellenistic outline and we reviewed a little for the test. Mr. Schick described the textbook in more depth than the outline. There was the Colossus of Rhodes, that fell and it was considered a wonder of the world. It was taken apart. It was considerably larger than John Carroll. The world would have been a lot different if Alexander didn't die so early. We also watched a video clip about Alexander.

Hellenistic Culture

  • Philosophy and Art
    • Zeno
      • Epicureanism and Stoicism:
        • Founded the School of Philosophy.
        • Founded the School of Thought.
    • Sculpture
      • Colossus of Rhodes: a bronze statue more than 100ft high, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
      • 150 B.C.: the Hellenistic world was in decline.
      • Rome was growing and gaining strength.
